I am always game to discover a new author and Penguin Randomhouse Struik make sure that my horizons are continually broadened.

This was my very first taste of Karin Slaughter. I absolutely love her style of writing and she draws you in from page one, I must say though that I was rather conflicted by the graphic imagery portrayed in this book ... despite that I pushed through to the end and I sure am glad I did.

'Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.

More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.

The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.'

I absolutely loved the plot of this novel. From the ex-drug addict sister turned doting to mom, to the truly dispisable sister Claire who seems to live an oblivious and distanced life of priviledge. That is until all hell breaks loose!

It is a super graphic novel with very evil plot of violence and not recommended for person's under the age of 16yrs.The characters are real and the crimes believable and reflecting modern day hate crimes.

All in all it's a great read , a mesmerizing author and a crime novel second to none.
