Winter is a time to snuggle into warm comfy clothes and boots. This being said , winter therefore allows us to hide a multitude of sins barring one .... the incorrect colour foundation!

To me there is nothing worse than seeing a woman wearing foundation that is either too dark or too light , it makes the face look like it is disconnected from the body.

Yes winter brings on the 'Pale Face Brigade', here are few tips to help you save face and not stick out from the crowd ...

HANDY HINT #1
You can hide all sorts of blemishes and scars or uneven skin tone and pigmentation with the correct foundation , it is the product that will need to be suited to your skin and NOT a shade darker ... please do not be fooled.

HANDY HINT #2
If you are unsure of what suits you , book a consultation at a cosmetic counter ( in South Africa , Edgars Red Square , Foschini , Truworths and Stuttafords) many of them are happy to assist and will show you exactly what you need in order to suit your specific concerns.

HANDY HINT #3
If you enjoy a Matte Finish , change to a Matte foundation and lay off the powder in winter as this can really dry and dehydrate the surface of your skin unnecessarily. Remember in winter we have heaters , central heating and less perspiration resulting in the skin getting drier than usual.

Foundation Guidelines ...
When choosing a foundation ensure that it is not only suited to your skin type but also to the current season.

SUMMER & AUTUMN
- sheer , natural with a satin/matte finish
- mousse make-up , BB Creams , CC Creams and long lasting options are best
- ideally should be one shade darker than your winter foundation

** YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE A DARKER COLOR , SO THAT YOU CAN CREATE A SHADE TO SUIT YOUR SKIN IN BETWEEN SEASONS

WINTER & SPRING
- hydrating and restoring foundations with a dewy finish
- full to medium cover is needed here to even out the skin tone which becomes blotchy due to the weather
- this shade should match the colour on the side of your jaw as indicated below , do not test on your hand as this skin is not only different in texture , but different in colour to your face.

These days there are a variety of options with BB Cream , CC Creams , Primers and Highlighters in my opinion these are great if you know and understand how to use them , if not stick to the basics and you can't go wrong.

Some of my personal favourite brands are as follows:
