Goji Berries also known as Wolfberry plant is a woody shrub which contains bright orangey-red berries with small yellow seeds, and is renowned as a superfood.

We have had an absolute onslaught of new miracle ingredients; these have penetrated not only the world of cosmetics but also our nutritional diets.Including the likes of Pomegranate seeds, Goji Berries, Argan Oil, Chia Seeds and the list could go on and on.

The amazing thing about these discoveries is that the majority of these ingredients have been used by our ancestors for centuries and in actual fact they are ‘re-discoveries’ which have been made as a result of enquiring scientific minds.

It is part of the tomato, potato and eggplant family (nightshades).
It is rumored in fact that Goji Berries were a well kept secret of the Buddhist monks in Tibet, and is suspected to be a key ingredient to their youthful appearance and longevity. However it should be noted that the first recording of this super berry was in ‘Shen Nong’s Materia Medica’ in the first Century B.C.
Goji berries have since had a reputation for delaying human mortality.

So what exactly make these berries so unique?

Well these berries contain a broad array of fabulously nutritious compounds such as …
Amino Acids
Vitamin A
Vitamin C

Some laboratory tests have shown that the anti-oxidants in Goji Berry may prevent the growth of cancer cells, reduce blood sugar levels and lower bad cholesterol, however research is ongoing.

As a skin care ingredient this berry will aid in slowing down aging by helping to prevent external aggressors such as pollution from attacking the skin. By restoring essential amino acids and vitamins these berries will help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

The conclusion this superfood can only improve your health and your skins health. I found the following great Goji Berry sources ( South Africa- only):
