With winter fast approaching and Cape Town being enveloped in mist the last 3 days I think we are all feeling the winter chill. But with that chill comes the dry skin , the cracked lips and the colds/flu.

SCRUB A LITTLE

It is important to note that in winter our skin tends to get drier and appear dull and lack lustre , enter the trusty scrub.... yes even for the lips.Sara Happ has developed a fabulous range of Lip Scrubs & Balms in Hollywood which is used by many of the stars who recognise that part of a healthy , happy and alluring smile is a soft, shiny pair of lips.

Dead skin sitting on the lips surface causing cracking , peeling and an unhealthy pale looking lips , when you exfoliate you are sloughing off the dead skin which allows your products to penetrate better , aids the application of lipsticks and glosses. If you are going the natural route it will give your lips a healthy pink glow.

Make your own

In a small glass dish mix 1 Tbsp of Castor Sugar , 1 Tbsp Olive Oil  and a pinch of ground Cinnamon {great for the circulation} , scrub over lips generously and rinse off excess. Apply Lip Balm.
This mix lasts 5 days in a sealed container.

*** Quick cheat - when brushing your teeth , brush over your lips too

TREAT A LOT

So now that we have eradicated the unwanted dead skin it is time to look after the new fresh skin underneath and there is no way better than applying a lovely nourishing lip balm. Lip balms help to give skin a surge of moisture and nourishment and act as a protective barrier against the harsh elements outside.

They often contain fabulous natural ingredients such as Shea Butter , Coconut Oil , Castor Oil , Argan Oil to name but a few.

Here are a few of my favourite brands...
